Aims:

To enable participants to develop their knowledge, skills and ability to work together with other agencies to safeguard children and young people. To ensure that participants are aware of information sharing and the referral processes.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

This training is specifically for "practitioners and managers with specific responsibilities for undertaking child protection enquiries or working directly with complex cases or named safeguarding professionals" DSCB Training & Development Strategy. Applicants should have completed an introduction to Safeguarding Children training within their own agency or organisation prior to attending this course. 

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be aware of roles and responsibilities for safeguarding children and young people.

  • Be aware of other inter-agency roles and responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Understand and contribute towards the processes outlined in "What to do if you're worried a child is being abused", ie. understand how to make a referral.

  • Consider key areas of safeguarding practice including information sharing, consent and confidentiality and escalation.

  • Consider how to demonstrate professional curiosity and a questioning stance in practice with children and families.
