Target Group (Staff Levels):

Staff who conduct or who are involved in safeguarding adults enquiries. The target audience is staff levels 2-3 (in accordance with the Dudley Safeguarding Adults Board) Safeguarding Strategy 2018-19.

 

Aim:

To enable staff to effectively engage with service users and/or their advocates to prevent or minimise the risk of neglect or abuse and where required to investigate allegations of abuse.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • To be able to effectively engage with service users when issues of potential or actual harm arise and enable them or their advocate /family member to express their chosen outcome and effectively contribute to the safeguarding process
  • To make effective safeguarding enquiries involving and gathering and sharing information with partner agencies
  • To enhance skills in assessment and investigation of allegations of abuse
  • Be able to analyse the information gathered and assess risk and protective factors and be able to make an informed decision about the likelihood of future harm
  • Be able to use make a reasoned judgement about the steps needed to safeguard the service user and promote their welfare
  • Be able to make a SMART safeguarding plan
  • Know how to record effectively
  • Know when a referral for a MARAC (Multi agency risk assessment conference) is required
  • Know when to include advocates and IMCAs
  • Know the MASH process (when it is determined by MASH or an allocated worker)

Brief Biography - David Gell

David has worked within social care and health environment for 25 years. Previous posts included Senior Adult Workforce Development Manager for Birmingham’s Adult and Communities Directorate, Lead Adult Trainer for Birmingham Social Care and Health, Social Work Team Manager, Senior Practitioner and numerous posts within the provider sector.
