This Multi-Agency training course will increase practitioner’s knowledge and confidence in practising ‘respectful uncertainty’ by thinking outside the box’, beyond their usual professional role and considering families’ circumstances holistically. It will also be an opportunity to explore how as professionals differences of opinion, concerns and issues that arise for practitioners at work and are resolved as effectively and swiftly as possible.

This training is particularly relevant for Children and Adults Social Care Staff, Early Help Practitioners, Police Officers, School Safeguarding Leads, Staff in the Care Sector. Health sector staff including GP’s and nurses with safeguarding lead responsibilities.

  Aim:

This course will give participants greater confidence and skills to effectively challenge professionals and practice within their agency and others.  It will also develop professional curiosity, in order to safeguard children and adults with care and support needs.

 Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand what we mean by professional challenge and how it can contribute, when used appropriately, to safeguard children and adults with care and support needs
  • Understand that this is a professional responsibility.
  • Explore the concept of ‘professional curiosity’ – what it looks like.
  • Increase understanding of the contribution professional curiosity makes to practice.
  • Consider learning from situations where professional curiosity has not always been evident.
  • Consider situations when it might be appropriate to challenge decisions, practice or actions, which might not effectively ensure the safety or wellbeing of an individual
  • Challenge the rule of optimism and develop practitioner confidence when working in partnership with families and professionals.

This is a DSPP Level 2 (Professionals Course) (Equivalent to: Staff group B (National Competency Framework for Safeguarding Adults) Intercollegiate documents at Level: 3/4)
